Holiday Activities for the Triangle Area NC

December 8, 2016

While the calendar might not say it’s winter for another couple of weeks, barren trees and the sight of my breath is all the evidence I need to know Old Man Winter has already begun his descent upon the Triangle area. While the return of Jack Frost has its downsides he also brings with him the holiday season and all the lively events that accompany this magical time of year. This season’s Santa-sized haul of holiday-themed events provides an abundance of activities for kids and adults alike. Below is a list of ongoing winter-themed events around the Chapel Hill/Pittsboro and greater Triangle area that are guaranteed to inspire even the grinchiest of winter detractors to welcome the warmth and giving spirit of the Holiday Season:

  • The Carolina Inn (Chapel Hill, NC): The Carolina Inn may be best known for their wedding celebrations and weekly bluegrass performances in the summer, but their winter events list also offers several fun family-themed activities throughout the holiday season. Currently ongoing is their annual “Gingerbread Village Display” featuring confectionery entries from professional and amateur bakers from around Chapel Hill and surrounding areas. Trust me, this is one Parade of Homes you won’t want to miss! Other upcoming events at the Carolina Inn include Breakfast/Brunch with Santa, horse drawn carriage rides, a “Make Your Own Gingerbread House” workshop, and holiday-themed performances from entertainers around the Triangle. Make you sure you visit their calendar ASAP for information on these events and more.

  • NC Chinese Lantern Festival (Cary, NC)– For the second straight year, Cary’s Koka Booth Amphitheatre will be illuminated through mid-January during the eye-popping Chinese Lantern Festival. This year’s event, which began Nov. 28th, includes 20 all new displays, each one comprised of hundreds of parts, and thousands of LED lights. This year’s event will also feature cultural performances and artisan crafts. Don’t miss this fun-filled event that is sure to put a smile on the faces of kids of all ages. Running Tuesdays-Sundays 6 pm – 10 pm. Visit Cary’s Booth Amphitheatre for more information. I will certainly be checking out the festivities!

  • NC Beer Guys Holiday Tasting Tour (Triangle Area): You’ve put up the decorations, finished your holiday shopping, and made all the preparations for this year’s onslaught of holiday parties. You’ve earned a break! Enjoy a well-deserved hiatus from the rigors of the holiday season by indulging in one of the NC Beer Guys beer-themed events across the Triangle. From Raleigh to Hillsborough, the event list provides celebratory occasions throughout the month of December and on into the New Year, including beer tastings, new beer releases, and grand openings. Cheers!
  • Share the Warmth (Durham, Chatham, Chapel Hill): Here’s a community event that can help you to embrace your holiday spirit of giving without ever leaving the comforts of home. Help “Share the Warmth” during the holiday season with Duke Energy’s Share the Warmth Round Up program. Simply enroll here and your monthly energy bill will be rounded to the nearest dollar. This small amount of change can add up to a big difference for your neighbors in need. 100% of your contribution goes to assisting low-income families and individuals to pay their energy bills. Your contributions are tax-deductible and go to help individuals directly in your community.

There are so many great activities this holiday season in the Chapel Hill, Pittsboro, Durham, and Raleigh area. I can’t wait to hear about all your family’s winter adventures during the holidays. #TriangleHolidayActivities #HolidayBeerTour #ShareTheWarmth #PittsboroandChapelHillHoliday
