I do find more joy in giving gifts than in receiving them. This year, I made it my goal to find 12 great ways to give during this Holiday Season. With all the hustle and bustle of this time of year, it is easy to forget about those who need our help the most. With that in mind, here is a list from my “12 Days of Giving” campaign including local Triangle Area events and charities that are accepting donations and volunteers throughout this Holiday Season:
Miracle on Hillsboro Street: It’s the trial of the century as Santa Claus himself must defend himself against those who wish to put him on the “naughty list” at the Chatham County Courthouse in “The Miracle on Hillsboro Street” (12/17). Proceeds from the event will go to benefit the CORA Food Pantry.
Chatham County Council on Aging: Help ensure the Chatham County Council on Aging can continue providing much needed services to the elderly such as providing meals, essential service needs, and respite for family caregivers, and so much more.
NC Food Banks: The toll Hurricane Matthew took on our state in early October has made this season’s food banks donations even more significant for families still feeling its effects. Find your local donation spot today and help those families in need.
NC Department of Social Services: Your county’s department of social services includes several ways to donate or volunteer your time to help spread some extra joy and cheer for children in need.
CORA Food Pantry: The CORA Food Pantry, serving Chatham County, accepts cash and food donations year-round.
Share the Warmth: Perhaps the easiest way to give throughout the year, this program from Duke Energy allows customers to round up the remainder of their bill to help those in your community. A little bit from all of us can assist mightily in helping those families struggling to pay their energy bill.
Chatham County Partnership for Children: This organization has several ways to give throughout the year and offers events for children and adults alike, such as the 2017 Blue Jeans & Bling Benefit for Children.
Triangle-Wide Hanukkah Sing-A-Long: The whole family is invited to take part in this free event. Please bring canned donations to support Jewish Family Services.
Salvation Army: You all have seen the Salvation Army volunteers tirelessly ringing their bells to spread holiday joy throughout your community. Reward their efforts by dropping some donations into those shiny red buckets.
Friends Feeding Friends: Throughout the months of November and December, Lowes Foods has partnered with Feeding America to conduct food drives in North Carolina.
Holiday Dinners: Help provide a delicious holiday turkey dinner to families in need this holiday season with a one-time donation of $25.00 to the Inter-Faith Council for Social Service.
Toys for Tots: With donation bins throughout your community, helping make a child’s holiday this season couldn’t be easier. Find a local donation box here.
Wishing you and your family a joyful and warm holiday season!
